Getting Singapore back to nature
Getting Singapore back to nature.
In order to get families walking again, we designed an app that took nature walks to the next level.
In an age of sedentary lifestyles and urbanisation, where people find themselves cut off from nature, NParks – a division of Singapore’s government – wanted to inspire a new generation of Singapore’s to get back to nature with an app that engaged and delighted.
What we did: Working alongside Havas Singapore, we designed a mobile app that took turned nature walking into a game fit for the whole family.
Not many people think of national parks when they think of Singapore, but there’s some brilliant ones around. The app would be promoted as an activity guide for parents to use with their kids in order to find treasures & monsters, while incorporating learning along the way.
We also let users explore Singapore parks by their current location & walking preferences.
During research, we found a lot of users had trouble with getting lost (particularly at the larger parks) and having to use google maps to find their way out. Even by using google, the only valuable info was the area of the park & the exists. We designed a digital concierge which guided you through guided tours through the park. With clever use of AR, we could point out historical landmarks as well as trees & flower types.
Leveraging on the Pokemon Go engine, we designed a hunting section within the app that would keep the kids busy for hours. Successful finds would give the kids points which they could later redeem as goodies at the gift shop on the way out.
Teachers and parents would find great use in class trips to the botanic gardens with an app that would enable them to identify plants, flowers and historical buildings with the simple click of a camera button, and that’s exactly what we designed.
