UX/UI Designer
Janice is the newest face of the team & takes up the role of UX designer. She’d describe herself as a logical, analytical designer: always searching for underlying motivations for why users do the things they do.
Janice comes to us as a living embodiment of diversity. Born in Malaysia, raised in New Zealand, now living in Singapore. Is she Kiwi? Malaysian? Singaporean? The answer, she claims, is yes.
After spending the first half of her life enjoying a peaceful and quiet existence with the sheep and hillsides, she’s returned to South East Asia for the hustle and burnout.
Like most creative types, Janice needs a hazelnut latte (her status as a millennial is showing) to kick things off. Though even without her morning brew, she’s relatively new to the field and thus exudes a freshman’s exuberance for work arriving too early in the mornings and leaving much too late.
I love being a part of a team & figuring out big problems. To that end I believe collaboration is the most powerful force, especially if you’ve got a bunch of diverse minds working on the same problem.
I’ve always thought that UX encompasses so many different disciplines & aspects of design, so being a generalist is something I’ve strived for. I’m traditionally a designer but I’ve grown very attached to the research side of things. I’m captivated as to why people make the decisions they make and how the UX facilitates those aspects of human psychology. That’s why I’m excited to join the EIGHTFOUR team as they’ve proven to be masters in this field.
“This work excites me. I think it’s awesome how we’re designing products that form the basis of business in the digital age.”
I think I’m a bit of an action junkie. I adore anything that is out of my comfort zone. Hiking, kayaking, travelling to weird and wonderful places sound like a good time to me!
I’m guilty of spending too much time listening to podcasts and watching YouTube. In my own defence, it’s because I love learning new things. If I find some nugget of information or new technique I want to find a way of incorporating it into my skill set.
Right now I’d say I’m in learning mode. Trying to suck up all the new information I can. It’s a lot to take in but it’s also extremely fun. Typically I work with the team in a collaborative effort on both smaller and very large scale projects. It’s difficult to break down a “usual” day because each day is so different. Sometimes I’ll spend a day in design, others I’ll spend doing research & others I’ll spend putting together a report. It’s really varied.
After work I exercise (so I can eat more of course).
We can do a lot
